Creating a dream garden

WALT: Create a garden using square units.

Today in maths,  Room 11 created a garden using square units. The reason for this was to understand the concept of area. First we had to plan on what we wanted our garden to look like. But first we had to realise that our pool had to be 20 units ( 20 squares), our Rock garden had to be 6 units, paving had to be 1 unit and the path leading to the pool had to be 1 unit as well. I found this easy math activity  to do because I understood what units were. In Today's math session, I learnt that pools can cost over 50 thousand dollars!!

Anzac Day

Yesterday Afternoon Room 11 planted white crosses to remember the soldiers that died in World War 1. Each cross had a soldier's name on it. My cross had the name PTE. B.E MERCER and he was the youngest to die at war at the age of 17.

Write a letter

WALT: Write a Letter

Peak Camp, Gallipoli

Dear Mum and dad,

Hi mum and dad how are you? You guys doing ok? I miss you guys A LOT like crazy but there is a picture in my head of us together that will stay in my mind, and thankyou so much for all that you have sent me. I appreciate all the foods, clothing and all the sweets that you have sent me and I still have 8 more tinns and 5 chocolate blocks so that will last me a couple more days well hopefully.

The weather has been so BAD past these few weeks. There was a storm last night and out of no where, lightning bolts flashed in the night sky all kinds of colours appeared. It was so bad that we all got drenched even our clothes and our tins broke open so now there is tinned food splattered all over the ground and our mattresses and blankets, oh man don’t get me started with that. they are as hard as a rock! They got muddy and the sun dried up the mud so now we have to find water to keep in wet so that our blankets and mattresses can go back to normal. But yea the weather is fine now and were prepared for whatever strikes at us.

Also, one of my friends ( Brian) got really sick early this morning. He starting coughing and complaining that his throat was getting tighter but  I don’t know how or what it is but he is in a really bad condition and he has not woken up yet but he is in good hands because one of our nurses ( Elizabeth) has been treating him with medicines and is making sure that he does not have any kind of disease that could of spreaded. And another bloke ( Frank) broke his leg while digging and passed away a couple of days ago so we had some sad days but great memories.

Once again Mum and dad, thankyou so much for the wonderful foods that you have sent me and please send all my Love to the rest of the family, please pass on this letter to all my friends and I love you. XOXO

Problem solving with Mrs Bina

This morning a lady came into room 11 to teach us maths. Her name was Mrs Bina and she is a maths facilitator. She gave each and everyone of us a maths problem to solve and we all had the same one. To solve it, we used objects. We use strips of paper and cut out rectangles. She told us how to problem solve in groups and that it is a lot easier when you work together so she put us in three groups. In my group, I had Yazmin, Camille and Robin. I found the problems challenging because I didn't know how to do it but then, when she started going over it I found it easy. Next I would like to learn how to simplify fractions.

My groups Trench

This is a model of a trench that my group and I made from World War 1. I worked with Alyssa and Lana and we made this because we are studying World War 1.

First we did some research on trenches, Then we took notes on what trenches are and what they look like. After that, we drew some 3d models on what we’d want our trench to look like. We all chose my one that was simple. In our trench, we had to include:  food, guns, a dog and sandbags. We did that. To create our trench, our teacher ( Ms Ramkolowan ) made us some play dough. Then, she shared it amongst the groups.

When we made our trench, we each had to contribute. Lana made the sandbags, Alyssa made part of the wall and I made the food and a first aid kit. We then had to wait for our model to dry so we left it out in the classroom during the weekends to dry. Then we painted it.

When we were making our model, I found painting our model was the easiest, Creating the wall was the hardest and the most difficult part of it was to make the sandbags because they would not stick on the wall properly. I think that it is easier to work in groups than by yourself because you get a lot of help and they are all nice.

I learnt that when you make a trench it doesn't have to be the best, but  it matters that your team helped and that you did the best you could. I also learnt that a trench was kind of like a maze because it would go different ways to different places.

Next I would like to make a war tank.
