This week, in maths I have been learning about fractions and how to position them correctly on the number line. At first I found it really hard but then, my teacher started going over and over it, I finally knew how to do it. In this game you have to know where to place the fractions.I thought it was easy for me because it showed me because it showed me how many slices the pizza was cut into. I still want to learn about positioning fractions but a little more challenging.
I am a Year 8 student at Glen Innes School in Auckland, New Zealand. I am in Room 8 and my teacher is Mrs Ramkolowan.

The Legend of St. patrick
WALT: Explain the legend of St. patrick
It all started in a place called “Britain” well, wales. A man named Maewyn succat was born in 387. His parents belonged in a high Roman family. He didn't like the attitude of the British towards Irish.
People call him St. Patrick because Pope Celestine gave him that name. Maewyn wrote letters to coroticus to criticize a raid on ireland conducted by coroticus, a british chieftain.Several patrick converts were killed during the raid.
At the age of 16, he was captured by Irish raiders sold to a chief in Ireland. He was sold into slavery and spent his teen years as a shepard alone for 6 years. That was the time when he became religious. He had dreams to find a ship that would lead him to freedom, then he escaped. He returned home to his family and considered himself as a Irish who found god. Patrick still had haunted memories of Ireland. He stayed in Britain for 18 years and then went on a mission where he suffered many trials as a missionary. He wanted to preach the gospel to people around the world. He spent 28 years traveling across the world to spread the word of god.
Legends say that the reason Ireland does not have snakes is because on a hill, patrick drove the snake into a wooden box where they could not break free. Another Legend is where he tricked the snake into a small box then casted it in the sea vanishing the snake forever!
The Shamrock comes from the gaelic word “Seamrog”. In irish it means “ summer plant”
meaning “trefoil” three leaved or little clover. The colour of the shamrock is green. They say that if you don’t wear green on this special day, you will get pinched!
On the 17 march, 461 AD Saint. Patrick died at the age of 76. He was buried downpatrick.

My learning this week
Through out this week, I have been learning more about length on Study Ladder. I found it a bit tricky at first because I didn't really understand it, but now I do after some practice. When I was trying to solve one of the problems on Study Ladder, I noticed that you had to know your multiplication and addition. I think that I need to know all of my multiplication, so that when I go back on Study Ladder, I can answer the questions straight away.

The worst day EVER!!
WALT: Write a narrative with focus on a powerful introduction.
“BANG CRASH WO” as i was driving in the sun on the motorway, a big car crash had taken place. Everyone was in such a shock and it took up nearly the whole morning! “but why”? I said in a horrified voice. As the sun was getting hotter I was getting sweaty and i was so happy when the traffic was gone so off i went.
As I was parking up at the parking spaces I remembered about my shopping list so I wrote down all the things that I needed and I went inside. As I was walking inside of the mall I realized that I needed to go to the food store so I took a shortcut and use the elevator. When I was in the elevator quiet music was playing and I decided to check my email so I reached down to get my phone but before I could even grab it I heard a
“ EEK EEK BANG BAM!!” “ OH NO!!”
I yelled but no one heard me so I called for help and luckily I just got a bit of reception and it was enough to call for help so dialed their number and waited for 25 minutes Angry as and I felt like a strong storm and when I feel like that i just want to cry but I couldn't because the people were here and I finally got out so that made my day.
Then, I had to walk up the stairs and that was a bit annoying but I had burnt 2 calories so that was okay. I was finally there and as I walked into the shop I noticed that they did not have what I wanted and that was my favourite salad!! so I asked the salesman if they had any but the man just yelled at me saying
“ Nah, if you can’t find it we don’t have it so GO AWAY”
“ but but you can’t talk to me like that!”
I muttered quietly. But the salesman did not seem to care and he called security and they kicked me out and I was so so so so ANGRY that I started to cry.
Then I saw a shoplifter! He yelled at me saying
“ YOU BETTER KEEP QUIET OR ELSE!!”
and he pulled out a gun but then but i knew i needed to do something so I called the police and they caught him from miles and they told me that I have just captured and witnessed the no.1 shoplifter in the world!! I was stoked and so speechless but very happy at the same time because as a reward the police gave me $1 000,000 and allowed me to get whatever i wanted for free in the mall for 30 days!! I was over the moon and very very happy!

Petuana's Bonfire Night
WALT: Explaining what we did on the 5th of November.
Bonfire Night - 5th November 2014
In class the children made Guy Fawkes. We made him out of straw, paper, clothing, sticks and a plastic bag. While we were making Guy Fawkes, some of the boys started to do a face for him, and some of the girls made a very tall top hat for him.
Firstly, we had to fill up the top and pants up with scrunched up paper. After that we had to fill it up with some straw. The straw that we use had a lot of rubbish in it and the gross thing about the hay was that it had a glove it and some old banana peels. eww! Then, we stuck some sticks inside of the top for some arms and some legs, but first we had to staple it up. We had to make sure that the t-shirt and pants were stuck on tightly.
After that, we were finally finished! but that was just the body. We needed to wait for the face and the top hat, then we were complete! So, we tidied up the classroom because the straw had just splattered everywhere on the ground, so Lauren,Lana,Sina,Jasmine and I helped tidy it all up, but that was to hard, so we cleaned up a little bit of the straw and just left some for the cleaners that clean up the classrooms after school.
Next, the class all got to together on the mat to sing the song that we were going to sing in the classrooms, because we were going to show and sing to the classes Guy Fawkes.
Room 9 went around to all the classes to show Guy Fawkes and to sing and everyone sang the first part, I sang the 2 part and Lauren sang the 3 part, then we all sang the last part which was “ And what shall we do with him? BURN HIM!!” It was kind of fun singing to all of the children in their classes but my voice started to feel a bit wrong.
After that, we all came back to class and we started to eat our lunch.
After Lunch, Rooms 9 and 10 went to the far end of school, next to the pool. Here we had our bonfire, where we threw sticks and paper in. When the bonfire had been lite, we threw our Guy Fawkes doll into the fire and we watched it burn!. While we watched our hard work burn, the clothing started rip and fall of but i think that the only thing that did not burn was the face of guy fawkes, but the rest all got burnt.
The children then roasted up some marshmallows on the bonfire. The marshmallows that we had were burnt but they were nice.
Finally, room 9 children all went back to class tired and exhausted after a hard days of work, so we all sat down on the mat, collected our bags put up our chairs and we watched our bonfire all again because Lana had videoed the whole thing. I had a good time doing the bonfire.
